Close to 1,000 players and their families will converge on Vacaville the weekend of July 24-27 for the 2009 Bobby Sox National Tournament of Champions. The four-day tournament will consist of girls and young women, ages 6 to 18, playing Bobby Sox Softball. Opening Ceremonies will take place at Vacaville High School from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 24th. Mayor Len Augustine, Vice Mayor Curtis Hunt, Council member Ron Rowlett and City Manager Laura Kuhn will throw out the ceremonial first pitches. Actual games will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 at Al Patch Park and Eleanor Nelson Park.
A total of 42 teams will compete in six divisions – 6 and Under, 8 and Under, 10 and Under, 12 and Under, 14 and Under, and 18 and Under – in this double-elimination tourney. Vacaville has a team in every division, as the 8 and Under and 12 and Under teams won their respective district championships and the other teams are entering as at-large teams. The championship games for each age group are scheduled for Monday at Al Patch and Irene Larsen parks. The last game, the 18 and Under championship game will begin at 5 p.m. There is no charge for the games, and refreshments will be available for purchase.
